Assessment Proctoring Tool

Riverside Publishing (a division of Houghton Mifflin Company) is the leading provider of standardized testing and assessments. When they decided to create an online version of the testing experience, they called on Idea Momentum to help them improve the user experience both visually and functionally.

Previous attempts by other vendors were coming up short on understanding Riverside's customers, teachers, administrators, and students. Essentially they saw everything as merely records in a database, not as actual people working together as a system. Their approach, not surprisingly, looked more like a data-entry system.

Riverside and their customers were looking for something student-centric, not data-centric. We understood and developed a series of prototypes and concepts that translated the abstract into tactical development initiatives. The prototypes were a radical departure from the previous efforts.

Idea Momentum guided the new approach all the way from prototype to production. And in the process introduced a more customer-driven approach to developing products.

Audiologist Counseling Tool

GN ReSound is the world leader in hearing instruments and audiology equipment. They provide audiologists around the world a suite of testing applications including software-based fitting tools.

Idea Momentum defined the user experience including the interaction design, visual design, and user interface of their Pro-Counsel application. The design was the guided by extensive field research and testing. The design process was a complex, yet coordinated effort between third party firms, internal developers in the US and Denmark.

The objective was to create a flexible tool that could be to localized to multiple countries, adapt to different brands, all without sacrificing usability.

The challenge of diagnosing hearing loss, describing the loss to patients, and recommending solutions is very challenging. Before Pro-Counsel, audiologists only tools were limited to diagrams and charts.

The Pro-Counsel tool enables audiologists to put things into perspective for the patients while their in the office and after they have left. Pro-Counsel delivered innovative features such as annotation tools and video explanations into one easy to use solution.

Evolve IPTV

Imagine being able to manage and control all the disparate systems and resources within a building with the click of a mouse. The integration of people, space, time, and energy into one unified interface is concept behind Building Information Systems.

Evolve IPTV[1] is a concept we built to demonstrate the real technology behind a Building Information System being developed in partnership with Breakthrough Technologies and Continental Electric Construction Company.

Idea Momentum translated the technical functionality into a concept that was both visually interesting and user-friendly. The result was a green light to development Evolve IPTV into a commercial product.

The objective was to 1) demonstrate technical capabilities of the platform, and 2) generate interest among potential partners and clients.

Carpooling Module

Green Building technology is one of the most encouraging, and fastest growing trends in construction and architecture. And while the term "green" itself can be vague, the actual tactics one can employ to improve our environment are very real. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized certification for how a building and community perform across a range of benchmarks like resource stewardship and sustainability. This certification provides a framework for making meaningful green changes.

Changing people's behavior is a key component of LEED that goes beyond building and architecture. Changing attitudes about smart energy usage is an ongoing process that pays dividends down the road.

Most people know Carpooling is a great way to reduce energy usage, but the perception and attitude is that it's not worth the hassle. The Carpooling module reduces those hassles by recommending schedules, routes, and riders.

Administrative Interface

The Riverside Online Assessment System (ROAS) transforms the multi-faceted, and complex operation of deploying standardized tests into an efficient and manageable experience for schools regardless of the technical ability of the end user.

Idea Momentum has works with Riverside Publishing on several large projects. This particular one involved an evaluation and subsequent set of design recommendations for improving the functionality and usability of the administration module of ROAS.

ROAS is a comprensive assessment environment that assists customers through every step from set up, proctoring, and scoring. The administration module of ROAS does more than handle set up, it's a dashboard for keeping things running smoothly.

Space Management Module

CePORT is the commercial version of the Business Information System for which Idea Momentum has developed the user interface, interaction, and visual design. CePORT consists of different modules that address four key resources within a building: people, space, time, and energy.

Optimizing space can be incredibly time-consuming and disruptive, and yet it's an extremely effective way to reduce energy waste and costs. The Space Management module within CePORT enables an organization to implement energy-saving solutions like hotelling and telecommuting. Individuals can choose an office, cubicle, or conference directly from a map based on real time status information.

AWS Kiosk

This prototype was developed to prove several concepts. As a tool it was instrumental in getting a green light from other partners to develop the broader tool set.

The concept for the kiosk was to demonstrate a seamless user experience. Since kiosks are often placed in public spaces there's little time for people spend a lot of time using them. Therefore the functionality needed to focus on the most likely set of tasks based on the location.

The kiosks themselves would provide a wide range of functions from way-finding to reserving office space. However, the location of the kiosks would determine the prioritized functionality.

For example a kiosk near conference rooms would default to event-centric information, and kiosks near elevators might provide information about occupants within the building.
